"Clean Earth, Green Earth". I think this was the first quote we'd say when we were young if someone asked us how we would make our environment green. It's true that the land pollution caused in today's generation is much more than ever estimated, and if not controlled, this will only continue harming our planet.
Clean-Up drives are one of the greatest initiatives that have been taken up by organizations, eco-groups and students as well to spread awareness and do their bit. These drives which are held almost in every country educate not only the youth and elders but also let children of kindergarten know the importance of conservation of our environment in a very simple form.
Like every year this year too I participated in clean-up drives that were held across the UAE such as "Clean-Up UAE" drive by the Emirates Environmental Group(EEG) and "Clean-Up the World" drive by the Dubai municipality. The best thing about these drives is they're usually held a bit far away from the fast city life in areas where trash and garbage is thrown into the desert and not many people take the initiative to get it clean.
I think that is how it should be.
This year the EEG managed to collect 98 tonnes of waste! Cleaning up the places which most people consider as a wasteland after all, it too can be useful!
But these clean up drive aren't only to be held in such large areas, they can be held in your building compound or car park too!
So next time you feel like hanging out with your friends or building mates, try this out- choose a day when most of you are free and get a few garbage bags and gloves. Find a place near you (Eg parking lot) and take the initiative to clean it up. The task would not be time consuming and it would give you satisfaction too! :)

@Shreya - Wow well done :) Yeah for sure we should be the change we want to see and our little steps can help to drive positive rhythm in our society. I am happy that you choose the place away from city, where cleaning hasn't been a priority. In my country Nepal also there are such drives very often and they are able to bring positive change too. Yet lot to do, keep sharing :)

Great work! We also take part in Clean up programmes from school, where we go around the neighbourhood spreading awareness among local people about disadvantages of polluting and cleaning up! The best part is that after a while, even the locals start to help us in our endeavours!

Great work Shreya! Clean up initiatives are indeed an efficient path towards a sustainable world.
Since the last 2 years, even I have been participating in The Clean Up UAE (organised by my school-DPS-Shj) ,Clean Up The World and some more clean up drives. It is commendable on how UAE has encouraged youth and children across the emirates to take up environmental initiative and has also now become an inspiring model for other countries when it comes to green development. But I agree with you. Anyone anywhere can take initiative to conduct a clean up. It gives everyone immense satisfaction in the long run. I would advise you to share your two experiences in two different articles so that everyone can have a detailed insight of your experiences. Thanks for sharing:)
