IT ALWAYS STARTS WITH BELIEVING

by Anthony Emecheta | 11-04-2015 06:18 recommendations 0

When the activity for last month (March 2015) was announced here on Tunza to be two beautiful environmentally educative games (Eco Running Man and Clear the GHGs), I was like, "Ah that's definitely my prize!"

I made this statement because I have always been a game freak which brought about my nickname 'Gameboy' (which I metamorphosed to Gamebaba as I grew older). My love for games was the type that couldn't be hidden it shone like the beam of a candle in a peach darkness.

Like my friend Dharmendra, playing games before reading helped me understand and cram better as the case may be (that?s weird I know). When I checked the ranking and discovered the name Arushi somewhere at the top with 2160 points, I panicked because I have played the game a dozen times and couldn't get 1900 points. My excitement changed to anxiety and at a point I nearly said ?I quit?.

Then one day my younger brother taunted, "Does the person at the top have two heads?" He said the words lightly but it made great impact on me. My believe came back and I started looking at the game closely, trying to monitor every step. In fact I began studying the game and it wasn't hard for me to discover that all I needed was to be fast and make sure my hammer stays at the bottom of the screen – to kill the bad gasses as soon as they emerge.

When I crossed Arushi and got 2210, I smiled to myself, "Now I have sealed the game. Surely." To my surprise, I came online the following day to see Arushi at 2245. I gave up. I lost the strength to play. Two days later I checked again and saw Arushi at 2285 then 2290. Mind you I was still at 2210.

My brother's words came hunting me again. I had to face the challenge. I played and played and got better with each game. And then one day I sky-rocketed from our shared 2300 to 2320. Effortlessly! I was surprised at myself when I looked at the score when the game was up and screamed at the top of my voice... YES!!! And today, I got my prize.

MORAL OF THE STORY

1) Your success or failure in whatever course you choose to veer in life begins with BELIEVING (because this word defines the attitude with which you approach your work). Believing that you can change your environment is the first step we all need in this fight to bringing sanity to mother earth.

2) In your quest no matter how much time you have invested in your thought/plan, notwithstanding how wonderful your idea is, even if your idea is as marvelous as saving the environment, be sure that you must meet an obstacle. When the obstacle comes, do you approach it like a dead end or do you leverage on it to modify your plans and improve on yourself?

3) We all need at least one person that will always believe in us and/or bring out the best in us. This might be a friend or enemy alike but this person in the long run becomes invaluable.

Special thanks to all those that participated. Don't despair in losing. Leave good behind, become better.

Wow, I've learned several life principles by reading your article, I really enjoyed it.
I just thought that you got a talent for playing games but it sounded rather like beating up a giant with non-stop punches regardless of the obstacles or foes.

Now you definitely remember Arushi's name. Actually she is a really lovely girl you may have seen her from her recent postings on the ambassador report page.
