King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy KACARE was established by Royal order A/35 of H.M. King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on 17th April 2010 with the fundamental aim of building a sustainable future for Saudi Arabia by developing a substantial alternative energy capacity fully supported by world-class local industries. Saudi Arabia has a rapidly growing population that places an ever-increasing pressure on the country?s non-renewable hydrocarbon resources. Therefore, it was concluded that alternative, sustainable and reliable sources of energy for generating power and producing desalinated water should be introduced that will reduce consumption of the nation?s fossil fuel reserves. It was also determined that a balanced energy mix of alternative and conventional energy is strategically important to Saudi Arabia?s long-term prosperity, energy security, and its leading position in the global energy market. Following extensive technical and economic analysis the decision has been taken to introduce atomic and renewable energy for a significant portion of Saudi Arabia?s future energy mix. The two sectors will provide substantial capacity, advanced technology, efficient use of resources and will be fully compliant with international best practices, conventions and treaties. Fulfillment of this decision enables the Kingdom to plan for increased demand for power and desalinated water whilst ensuring the rate of national development continues apace. The introduction of alternative resources now places Saudi Arabia to the fore in the development and utilization of atomic and renewable energy whilst providing numerous opportunities for national and international private sector companies to grow their businesses in the Kingdom, and Saudi nationals to enhance their knowledge and skills. Applications In all over the world, every body can notice the huge developments in the solar energy fields. For instance, Solar cars have been developed in the last twenty years and are powered by energy from the sun. Although they are not a practical or economic form of transportation at present, in the future they may play a part in reducing burning fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel. Cochin International airport, becoming the first airport in the world that completely operates on solar power by installing a 100 kWp solar Plant on the roof top of the Arrival Terminal Block. Shanghai Research Institute of Building is a live example of Solar energy optimization by passing the light and heat of the Sun in order to light up and heat the building. the green building obtains solar energy by adopting ?active?. This ?active? green building is a kind of heating system consists of solar energy collector, radiator, pump and fan, or air conditioning-building combined with absorption chiller. United Arab Emirates has built what considered the most sustainable and green city in the globe, Masdar is on a mission to advance the clean energy industry in Abu Dhabi and around the world. the latest and advanced technology adopted by Masdar is the Solar Impulse 2 which is the only airplane of perpetual endurance, able to fly day and night on solar power, without a drop of fuel. Save Billions of Oil Barrels and Dollars The climate of Saudi Arabia is hot, sunny and dry almost all year long which would be breeding chance for any solar project. By Utilizing the huge Empty lands, billions of barrels will be saved from burning in power plants and could be invested in down streaming crude oil in petrochemical industries. Road lights associated with solar cells will reduce electricity consumption. Parking lots shading covered with cesium cells to receive the solar energy and stored in batteries for further usage. Water heater in houses can be powered through cells covering the roof. The great outcome of utilizing solar energy is not only financially but it will reflect on the development of the country.
