Pollution is a major threat to the existence of animals and humans. The major contributor to pollution is the smoke and toxic gases like carbon-dioxide, carbon monoxide etc. emitted by vehicles . With the rise in the income of the middle class, there is an unprecedented deman for automobiles. I fully endorse the idea that public transport system should be encouraged to tackle the ticklish problem of pollution.
It is usually seen that in capitalistic societies,big cars have become a status symbol.Members of many families have their independent cars. This pseudo-arstocracy is not a personal affair but it is a major cause of pollution. In this mad race they forget their responsibility towards the atmosphere. Such persons should be discouraged from this false ense of freedom. Luxury cars should be heavily taxed. The prices of the fossil fuel like petrol and diesel should be hiked to such an extent that it's wastage is dicouraged .
The governments should adopt multi-pronged approach to tackle this problem. Public means of transport like trains,trams and buses should be made cheap so that using it looks like a foolish alternative. All the professional and commercial centres should be made accessible through trains and buses.
But on the other hand we must be wary of the hue and cry the followers of liberty and purifications may create. I am hopeful that all these voices can be silenced if better , cheaper and more reliable transport service is provided to the people.
