2016 GYELS - Post Summit Impressions & Actions |
---|
One of the most exciting days in my life is the day I received news that I had been selected as one of six worldwide delegates to attend The Global Youth for Environment Leadership Summit (GYELS) in Seoul, South Korea. I travelled from Dublin and arrived in Seoul 17 ?hours later with my mum as chaperone. The week in Seoul is one I will always remember for friends I met who come from many parts of the world lectures and workshops held at Seoul National University our stakeholder discussions, draft resolution on ?How Stakeholders Can Eliminate Global Warming and the final presentations a fun-filled trip to Everland Theme Park an educational Engium Tour at the Samsung Headquaters cultural tours, shopping trips and the lovely buffet meals in different restaurants. Since returning to Ireland I have shared news about my experience by writing reports which have been made public by various Irish stakeholders with whom I have a working relationship. These include my school, the local newspaper and two NGOs - one local and one international – that are raising awareness on climate change and sustainable development goals (see links below.) I hope that Samsung Ireland will get involved in promoting eco-friendly education programmes in Ireland as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. http://www.dgs.ie/news/dgs_delegate_to_global_youth_summit_in_south_korea www.developmentperspectives.ie/see-the-world-differently
