Kenya to incorporate environmental education in curriculum |
---|
The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, the body that is mandated to revamp the the current Kenyan curriculum has indicated that it will incorporate compulsory environmental education in the new curriculum.
The lessons that children learn at a young age have a major impact on their view of the world later in life. This is why the beauty and mystery of nature should be taught top young people. Best practices on actions as simple as not littering should be inculcated to ensure that they stick in the children even when they are adults. Environmental conservation has become not only a national issue but a global one. With the crisis the world is experiencing from global warming and climate change, offering environmental education will be of paramount importance in order to teach they youth and children at a tender age of the necessity of conservation. local non governmental organizations have lauded the move, arguing that the constitution gives citizens the right to a secure and clean environment. Giving children an opportunity to practice this is a welcome move. Vices that include pollution, poaching and deforestation will be negated while positive actions that include tree planting, waste collection and management will be emphasized |
