Carbon capture and storage Revolution

Hello, the Eco-Tunza platform. I am again so proud to be one of yours.
Last month I assisted to conference organized by the Yale center for Business and Environment about the green energy choices. It was presented Pr. Edgar Hertwich, professor at Yale University Center for industrial Ecology. It was great opportunity for the audience to learn more about green energy sources.  During the seminar, I learned about something new: carbon capture and storage (CCS) I then decide to know more about it and its use in Turkey.
Carbon capture and storage (CCs) involves capturing carbon dioxide released in the atmosphere and burying it deep underground .This is a new technique benefit both costly and ecologically for a continent that aims to cut its emissions substantially by 80-95%.

This technique also has a significant potential in Europe because Europe has a large reserves of fossil fuels and a fast-increasing energy demand.

Turkey, European Union Membership candidate since October 2005 have been to ask to acquire the environmental acquis gained by the states. Of course, Turkey has progressed since 2005 from ?totally incompatible? to ?moderately prepared ?comparatively in the field as the environment and climate change.  Turkey has a lot to do in order to catch up with European states.

Well, air pollution is not as critical in Turkey compared to Europe but it should be affirmed that air is not that clean in Turkey too.  Great initiatives in environmental research and policies has been studied and are gradually being implemented and experimented by municipalities and the Ministry of Environment and urbanization. Universities all across the country are developing a vast tree planting campaign in this country that counts 193 universities.

Carbon capture and storage has been identified as a potential tool but hasn?t received an acceleration support from many government : Just eleven countries in the world have given their support during  the 2011 Clean Energy Ministerial meeting in Abu Dhabi . Among them we had tree European countries: UK, France and Germany.  Carbon capture and storage projects have already been implemented by companies that have offices in Istanbul.

Never forget: Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is the only technology available to mitigate emissions from large-scale fossil fuel use.
