Seven billions dreams, our planet. On the auspicious occasion of world environment day 2016 June 5, the new way of learning debate, negotiate, lead and unleash the potentialities we conducted FEWA MUN which was academic simulation of UN, where the participants had role played the delegates from different countries and debate as well as discussed on burning issues to set, plan, formulate and implement the policies and perspectives of their assigned countries. The agenda was - Climate change and its impact on environment. The participants were from 7 different universities 1. Janapriya Multiple Campus 2. Prithvi Narayan Campus 3. Western Regional Campus 4. Pokhara University 5. Food Technology 6. Pokhara Engineering Campus We started the program with a workshop on May 28 followed by a two days simulation of Model United Nations on June 4 and June 5. As it was environment day and the topic was Climate Change and its impact on environment most of the discussions were on such issues which were common but hidden somewhere. MUN was happening for the very first time in Pokhara and it was a great challenge for us to make it successful as most of the people were unknown about what MUN really was, but later it came out to be interesting, knowledgeable and the most effective program ever held in Pokhara. There were total 25 delegates who were assigned some of the member country of UN including USA, UK, China, Russia and other African, Gulf and the brick countries. All of them showed extreme interest dedication and raised very burning issues by their motions, some of them are 1. Fund to developing nation by developed nation - delegate of Pakistan. 2. Deforestations in developing countries- delegate of Canada 3. Role of developed countries in climate change – delegate of Bangladesh 4. Renewable energy a solution for climate change- delegate of Iceland 5. Affect of climate change on agriculture- delegate of USA 6. Environment court – delegate of Pakistan 7. Risk in Island due to rise in sea level – delegate of Japan 8. Nuclear power plant as a solution to energy demand- USA
The above motions were widely discussed with their diplomatic ideas and created a lot of price worthy solutions. Debate and discussion raised the burning issues on the first day and the solutions were proposed by drafting a resolution on the second day. Many resolutions were proposed by different sponsor?s countries and with the high majority vote the resolution sponsored by Sweden, Pakistan, Switzerland, Japan, Iceland and signatories Afghanistan, Haiti, Bangladesh, Brazil, Australia, Myanmar was passed after amendment. Glad to say finally we did ! Happy environment day again. |
