Eagles considered as one of the apex predators (top predator) in the food chain cycle of a forest ecosystem in Java. Its role as a regulator of the balance of the natural forest ecosystem in Java. However, if the habitat is disturbed as a carnivorous bird, the eagle will be depressed. This indicates the importance of the eagle in a natural forest ecosystem in Java as an indicator of the quality of the natural forest environment.

One of habitat for hawks, especially the rare Javan hawk is the natural forests in the National Park of Mount Merapi (TNGM) Yogyakarta, Indonesia. 5 Individuals recorded at Merapi on Java Eagle Eagle population study by BKSDA Yogyakarta in 2004. Javan hawk eagle be an indicator of the quality of key natural forest environment, as it can only live in the forest. The results showed Javan Hawk-eagle (Spizaetus bartelsi) can not compete with the Black Eagle (Ictinaetus malayensis) and the Eagle Snake Bido (Spilornis cheela), not to mention the problem of habitat degradation and habitat choice of Javan hawk-eagle itself.
