Climate Change Education from YFCA

Hallo!

It's been a while since my last post in December hoho. So, recently, my organization, Youth for Climate Agent (YFCA), has been doing Climate Change Education project, cooperate with KAM Bumi Ganesha ITB (BG), though. BG used to have social service project to educate students from first grade of elementary school till 9th grade of junior high school students. They used to teach these students twice a week, and for free of course :)

So yeah, last week is quite special though, we contact BG to tell about our mission, for spreading the awareness about Climate Change. We want to teach them about the fundamental concept of CC, and how we, as individuals and group can overcome this issue. Because CC is global issue that should be dressed in local ways.

The first thing we did, was creating the presentation about CC. Begins with introduction about our organization, and the differences between weather which is the short-term condition of atmosphere (i.e. rain) and climate which is the average condition of atmosphere - in long-term ways (i.e. tropical climate - warm and rainy in Indonesia).

And then, we told them about how climate is important ..... For their own food! Because ..... It's almost impossible to grow "Rice" in Cairo. So, understand how's the climate works would be an advantages, at least for the farmer also!

Climate affects our healthy also ..... The warm,  and rainy climate like Indonesia, would increase the growth of Malaria mosquitoes, right? Well, Bandung, as one of area which was surrounded by mountains ..... It used to be cool, even 20 years ago, it used to be foggy in the morning. But no, CC is changing Bandung's temperature, makes it hotter and possibly increasing the numbers of Malaria or even dengue because of mosquitoes.

And many things could happen because of CC.

We gave an example of CC's impact. In 2016 itself, less than one month, there are 3 extreme floods. It was on 24th October, 09th November, and 13th November 2016. It was a disaster, you may see the video on youtube though! Thanks to CC, Bandung would increase its rain intensity and drought itself! Next, CC increase the possibility of forest fire for sure ..... Which is leading us to have more CC, endanger the biodiversity, and also .... decrease the healthy of local societies because the smoke.

Last but not least, we told them about what caused the CC. Obviously it's because the increase of GHG emission. Like Carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, methane, water vapor, etc. These were caused by Natural or man-made factors. But mostly, currently, 97% of scientist believed that CC was caused by human activities, which is referring to burning of fossil fuel, the electrical usage, food waste, and also Illegal logging!

To assure whether they understood what we're talking about. We gave quiz and game also! So that they could think more, what they should do to overcome this issue hoho. Alhamdulillah, we stick to the plan, though :))
