Sometimes, it is necessary to be in the dark, so you can shine a light.

On 25th  March 2017, the entire was agog with excitement, as the world?s most celebrated and popular environmental event, The Earth Hour took place from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, with the goal of reducing carbon emissions in a unified manner, with countries all over the world switching off the lights on their important landmarks, and citizens following the lead.

In the UAE, the world?s 10th Earth Hour was majorly celebrated, as the responsible residents made sure to Change Climate Change by switching off. However, in the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah, there were also celebrations where large amounts of people gathered to spend their time and truly verify that this environmental event has now become a festival.

Even through it was raining, the spirits of the environmental enthusiasts were not deterred. In Dubai, the Earth Hour celebration was organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Emirates Wildlife Society-World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF). Held at the Bay Avenue Park in Downtown Dubai, the event saw hundreds of participants absolutely geared up to make a difference, that day and every day. There were many environmental organisations from Dubai that had set up their stalls at the venue, one example being the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), which collected 10 Kgs of paper from each of it?s members and held a ?Paper Walk? during the environmentally auspicious hour. I handed over 15 KG of paper to EEG to confirm my share of participation.

I shared my views on energy conservation with members of public and convinced them to make each hour an earth hour. They were very impressed with my views and promised to save energy.

After attending the Dubai event I moved over to Sharjah. In Sharjah as well, the Hour was recognized wholeheartedly, at the Majaz Park celebration, where the upright, lit, ?60 +? logo, along with the many environmental organizations in Sharjah such as the Environment Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), Bee?ah which were present at the venue. With Glowing dance performers, the musical fountains and the electric candles, the event was buzzing in the darkness. Many participants were present there including my school mates & other friends. Collectively we pledged to conserve energy & observed the Earth hour with full fervor.

At the onset of Earth hour at 8:30PM I went live of face book and spread the awareness about my participation. I also promoted the Tunza Eco-Generation at Sharjah and may participants were made aware about Tunza events & activities. I consider this my duty to share about my Tunza experience.

All in all, the Earth Hour 2017 only went on to prove that we can achieve great things through a collective effort, and that Earth Hour should be celebrates every day every hour of our lives, and in the darkness, we need to shine a light on Climate Change.
