Who knows about Algeria? It is a North African country with an incredible geographical variety 1600km of coast that overlooks the Mediterranean or the Sahara and its desert. It currently is Africa?s largest country. This brought me to think of exploiting its wealth in an ecological and economic way.
The idea certainly is classic and not very innovative but one that will carry the fruits just spoken about. Can you try to imagine the process involved in the delivery of containers and bulky goods all over the country from the port which is situated in the north? The most used means of transport are trucks which not only have a catastrophic impact on the environment (pollution) but also on the economic point of view. If we take a simple example of 10 trucks each carrying a container and try to analyze together the risk on the road, the trucks are so susceptible to traffic, accidents and are a bit insecure, not leaving out the gases each truck would release, gases that have a negative impact on the environment.
At this point, the train comes in to play more economical and in all environmentally friendly for the following points: First, if we take the same example of the 10 containers, one train alone can perform the transportation task and make several stops all over the country and can even assume much more than 10 at a time. We can also think of coordinated resources that already have been developed like solar panels or other renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, the more trains we have, the more we contribute to the health, safety and healing of our environment, lighten on the load of roads, improve security, create jobs for the people and even to some extent welcome investors and tourists as a result of the developments.
Finally, with a big and spread train network, mechanical energy of the trains can be converted to electrical energy which would be used to provide power to cities, of course at cheaper prices hence improving the lives of people.

You carried to the point. Really train are safer and easy way of transportation which are environment friendly. But i feel pity we dont have any train here in Nepal.
Thanks for the report.

Of course Souhil, means of mass transport- public as well as cargo- are always more Eco-friendly than smaller individual vehicles. Use of trains to generate clean energy also appears to be a viable option for easy and renewable energy.

You rightly pointed out an issue in most of the countries. Trucks are neither good for environment nor for economy. Cargo trains are much better, eco-friendlier and economical. I appreciate your further idea to explore mechanical energy from the movement of trains to be tapped to get electrical energy to power the homes. Hope concerned authorities look at it and implement it or similar eco-friendlier measures to carry goods.
