The olive trees in Algeria

by | 14-07-2017 12:33 recommendations 0

Algeria as you know is a country that has a Mediterranean climate that is excellent for the cultivation of olive trees.  This tree was present before, during and after the Roman civilization with the production of olive oil on the Greek Land through Italy to Spain, Turkey and stretching as far as the countries of North Africa.

Interestingly, the characteristics of this sacred tree contribute a lot to its agricultural prosperity. The olive tree (Olea europaea L. subsp. europea var. europaea) is a fruit tree that produces olives, a fruit consumed in various forms and from which one of the main edible oils, olive oil, is extracted. It is the variety domesticated for several millennia and cultivated mainly in regions of Mediterranean climate. One of the subspecies of Olea europaea, a species of trees and shrubs of the Oleaceae family does not need much water or rain so, it does not require a lot of means to surivive and is an excellent shield against the advanced desertification, a problem that Algeria suffers today.

Being a farmer's son, one who had specialized in the field for more than 100 years , I did not only grow up in the circles of the cultivation of the olive trees but also  the production of olive oil, this sector being in development and still flourishing years behind him.

When I lay down in the field, I look at the olive trees and I wonder about how much they would have to tell us if they could talk.  They have existed for more than 120 years and are always there with a kind of pride, resistant to Wars and natural disasters.

Thank you Souhil, for hinting at the importance of the olive tree. Olives and olive oil is an important part of the cuisine of UAE where i reside.
I too would love to hear what the olive trees have to say about out civilization. Perhaps they would give us advice, to turn the clock back and avert global warming. :)
