Waste is actually waste, unless it is wisely used. The worldwide running civic mass movement that began with Estonia in 2008 is now in Nepal as well, with the motive to clean up illegal waste. In the World cleanup day on September 15,2018 it is expected that people from 150 countries will stand up against the global trash problem that we have self-created, will be cleaned and will be the biggest civic action that anyone had imagined. It just doesn?t focus on cleaning up but also aims to unite people from different communities around the world, raising awareness to have a dream fulfilled to get a clean and healthy environment with zero waste by better implementation to live in a healthy and clean environment with the massive effort of the people around the world. Nepal being a part of this ambitious mission, people from Thamel, Kathmandu also conducted the waste mapping program on 15th November,2017 and the cleanup program on 18th November,2017 with the involvement of youths from Green society Nepal, Mr. Robin Chapagain, Waste mapping head of Let?s do it Nepal and ganesh wagle as well as three representatives from Let?s do it, Mr. Paul Martensson from Sweden, Mr. Harry Lurcher from England and Mr. Luke Day from USA organized a cleanup event in around 1 sq.km area at Thamel, Kathmandu. The program was carried on two different dates with the motive to involve three representatives of Let?s do it in the program. 15 illegal trash points were mapped and cleaned on the respective days, and even the whole area along with the illegal trash points were cleaned. A short briefing of the concept of zero waste and the main motive of cleanup was also done by those representatives. Aims and objectives: The main objective of the program was to find out the illegal trash points and then clean it up To carry out the mapping of the illegal trash points. To clean up the illegal dumpsites of the area. To unite large number of people like volunteers to be the part of the great civic action. To attract all the associates organization towards cleanup campaign. To aware people about the negative impact of this wastes in people?s health and environment as well. Outcomes realized: With the use of the cleanup app, 15 trash points were mapped and registered as illegal dumpsites that were cleaned later, on where almost 600 kg waste was collected. Result: Huge difference was seen in the place comparing its before and after situation which was just possible because of the active participation of the volunteers. The collected waste was properly segregated as bio-degradable and non-biodegradable for its proper management. The cleanup campaign changed the situation of the environment making it much beautiful.
