Earth Hour in Nepal

by Ramesh Sapkota | 24-03-2018 17:56 recommendations 0

Earth Hour was marked in Nepal by shining 4,000 lights on climate action. Through an event organized in Basantapur, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, WWF Nepal organized a candle light vigil and used the medium of spoken word through three young Nepali slam poets to talk about climate change and encourage climate action.

Earth Hour is a global moment of solidarity for climate action and comes only months after governments agreed a new global climate deal. To date in 2016, Earth Hour has powered more than 530,000 individual actions taken to help change climate change.

Earth Hour in Nepal will be celebrated with a night event at Basantapur Durbar Square, Kathmandu. 5000 candles will be lighted to an awakening gesture of shining the light on climate action. The event will mainly encapsulate environment and action for climate change messages through performances of spoken word poets. A pre- event hype will be created through digital media to bring the Nepalese people together to shine the light on climate action.
