Ha!
The time for an Earth Hour has dawned again! Earth Hour holds a special place in my life because it was an Earth Hour in 2012 that made me expand boundaries and plan to organize an awareness programme along with my school Eco Club at a mall in Sharjah. From that day onwards, my activism and passion towards Environment protection has always increased. I make it a point to take part in Earth Hour in any way I can. Either by attending events or celebrating it at home. Currently since I am studying, I stay at the hostel of my college. So, this year I decided to celebrate it simple and small in my hostel room itself. My roommate and I switched off the lights at 8:30pm and lit a small candle. We took a few photos and spend the time talking and chatting. We also taught some topics to each other from what we learned that day. The season here is Summer and to sit in the room without fans is no mean task. But still we somehow managed. After celebrating the one hour of lights out, we really enjoyed. My roommate celebrated it for the first time in his life and he has told me that we need to do it next year too. Not just switching off lights for one hour, simple steps everyday can make a huge difference. Switching off unnecessary lights, fans, etc whenever not needed itself makes a huge difference. Lets start being role models in our homes, schools, colleges, friend circles, and societies and like a ripple on water, inspire millions. Happy Earth Hour! - George Zacharia
