Uganda's Climate Captains

by Balyejusa John Hillary | 11-02-2019 04:29 recommendations 0

Climate Action is everyone's responsibility after all everyone is almost directly affected by climate change. However sadly most times people tend to forget that they are called to act on climate. GirlsForClimate, a social climate movement in Uganda through its #ClimateCaptains program trains young people to become local climate leaders in their communities. In January 2019, a group of 27 32 youth were recruited for a training of climate science, climate justice, leadership and community organizing. With those skills the youth are commissioned to teach other people in their communities. They in turn become climate leaders to stir climate actions in their communities by teaching children basic climate science and engaging the communities and their leaders in active climate action. GirlsforClimate also offers the climate captains training online so that anyone can become a climate captain anywhere in the world

This is a great step in engaging the youth to participate in climate action and to be future policy-makers! Thanks for sharing.
