by Arjun Anand | 20-05-2019 16:31 recommendations 1

Pearl Millet- Pennisetum glaucum (Scientific Name)

Millets are a group of highly variable small-seeded grasses. The commonly grown millets are Sorghum, Pearl Millet, Finger Millet, Barnyard Millet, Foxtail Millet, Kodo Millet, Proso Millet and Little Millet. Unlike rice and wheat that require many inputs in terms of fertiliser and water, millets grow well in dry regions as rain-fed crops. They are Highly nutritious, non-glutinous and rich in fibre, therefore they are easy to digest. They are also useful as fodder for the livestock.

My report is on Pearl Millet and its benefits. Peal Millet is commonly known as Bajra in India. Pearl millet is rich in essential compounds like protein, fiber, phosphorous, magnesium and iron. Due to its rich composition of minerals and proteins, Pearl Millet has many health benefits.
India is the largest producer of pearl millet. Rajasthan is the highest

producing state in India. Apart from Rajasthan and Gujarat states of Inia, bajra is widely consumed in rural India and is one of the oldest cultivated grains but people living in urban cities seem to have forgotten this coarse grain and its multiple health benefits.

The following are the health benefits of Bajra :
• Powerful for controlling diabetes:
• Weight loss
• Reduces cholesterol
• Helps in digestion
• Keeps the Heart Healthy
• Controls Diabetes
• Safe for Gluten Intolerant People
• Relieves Constipation
• Helps to Detox
• Controls Anemia
• Prevents Cancer and Tumors
• Alleviates Asthma
• Prevents Gall Bladder Stones
