How Solar Energy is Good for the Environment

by Kevin Devoto | 30-07-2019 02:38 recommendations 0

Solar energy uses the light from the sun to provide power. Solar energy is being used to power homes and commercial properties. There are many ways that solar energy is good for the environment. Virginia solar is making this clean energy without compromising service.

Reduction in Fossil Fuel

Most of the energy that is made in the United States is from fossil fuels including coal and natural gas. In order to get these items they need to be extracted which can be expensive and will harm the environment. Solar energy does not cost anything and as long as the sun is shining even just for an hour enough energy will be captured. Solar energy will reduce the need for fossil fuels and the harm they cause to the environment.

Decrease Greenhouse Gas

Using solar energy can reduce the number of harmful gases that are put into the air including carbon dioxide. Greenhouse gases can lead to an increase in temperatures and will lead to additional changes in the climate. This can also cause sea levels to rise and can cause changes to the ecosystem. By reducing the number of harmful gases in the oxygen the environment is protected.

Reduction in Pollutants

Solar energy does not put pollution into the air. Widespread use of solar energy will reduce the number of nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide, and other pollutants that can lead to health problems. This will help make the air clean and will help reduce people with respiratory issues.

No Transportation Needed

When using fossil fuels for energy they need to be transported. This can mean sending them over the ocean or even on land. There is always the chance to accidents, leaks, and spills. This can harm the environment. The area will be polluted and the wildlife in the area will be harmed. Solar energy is not harmful and will not bother the ecosystem.

Renewable

Solar energy is unlimited. As long as there is a sun in the sky there will be energy. Even on cloudy days, a person will still be able to have all of the energy that they need. There is no drilling or mining needed. Only a couple of panels are needed in order to get an unlimited supply of energy.

Reduce Water Waste

Coal and nuclear energy use a lot of water. For every kilowatt hour of energy, they produce 20 to 60 gallons of water is needed. Solar energy does not need much water. This form of energy uses 86 to 89 percent less water than other forms of energy. This includes the manufacturing of the panels. The water will not be wasted. It should also be noted that this water will not be polluted during the process of making and refining energy. This is better for the environment and will also reduce acid rain.

Reduce Land Waste

Nuclear power plants and even coal power needs a great deal of land in order to produce their energy and to keep operations going. This is very important in order for the entire process. A lot of space is needed and a lot of land is wasted. Solar panels do not take up a great deal of space. They use less than 20 percent of the land that these other plants do. Solar panels can even be placed on top of buildings in order to provide the energy needed.

These are some reasons why solar energy is better for the environment. Solar energy does not harm the environment and will reduce the amount of waste and chemicals that are put into the air.

with increasing global temperature, shifting to solar energy is indeed a sustainable option. As you said, there would be a reduction in land wastage. I feel that the focus should now be in rooftop solar panels to utilize energy off the grid. Despite, the costs involved, we need more startups to be actively involved to bring about interesting solutions. Thank you for the article.

    Hello Kevin
Solar energy is the most effective renewable source of energy. I think government should focus on so,Ar energy, how can people get aware of it and manage an environment for its use.
    Great report.
    Green cheers!
