Choosing the perfect solar panels for your roof can easily be done by looking at their qualities and comparing them to what you actually need to get out of it. For some home or businesses owners efficiency is the top priority. Someone else may have a totally different need, like a huge concern for space and weight. Lightweight Options Thin film panels are light-weight so they will fit great on a roof with a small unique shape. If the efficiency rate of the thin film panels fit your needs, when it comes to electricity then there's a perfect match. However, with monocrystalline and polycrystalline panels more room may be needed, so a rooftop that has extra room will be expected. Types of Rooftops for Solar Panels When it comes to solar panels, there are various types of roofs that the installation can take place on. One type of roof is the Composite roof. The Composite roof is perhaps the most convenient roof for rooftop installation. Asphalt or composite shingles are created from fiberglass. Also a cellulose mat is used. Afterwards other materials, including asphalt is added tot he roof. Metal Standing roofs are made from recycled materials. They are very eco-friendly and has the potential to last for decades. These types of roofs are the great choice for thin film roofs. And also an excellent choice for CPV panels. The reason for this is because of the standing seams that the roofs come with. These standing seams allow for remarkable installation. Gravel and Tar Gravel and Tar rooftops are much more fire resistant and so they are much likely to be a better choice. Gravel and Tar rooftops are created from sheets of hot tar. Roofing felt is also laid. This material is made from fiberglass fleece that has been immersed in a waterproofing solution. Along with the fiberglass, there is polyester added, also marinated in the solution. This material will lie between the actual roof of the home and house itself. The purpose of this sheet is to provide extra protection for the home, in case a shingle happens to be blown away etc. Because gravel and tar roofs lie flat, the panels will need brackets to tilt them upwards. The requirement of the tilt will need to be at least a 30 degree angle. Roofs that Could be Difficult
The least recommended rooftop would be the wooden roof. With wooden roofs, shingles can be placed on an angle or they can lie flat. When electing to install solar roofs on wood roofs, be aware of the potential safety concerns. The job of a solar panel is to draw heat, in which to convert it into electricity. So with wooden roofs there could be fire concerns. Tips for Rooftop Solar Panel Installations Before installing panels on your roofs, consider a tips. Sometimes situations pop up that the home or business owner did not consider. So, below are a few pieces of advice: a. Does the roof need any repairs? b. Where will the water flow? c. What is the shape of the roof d. How much weight can the roof bear Checking the roof to see if there is a need for repairs, will be less costly if done prior tot he installation of solar panels. Take the time and hire an expert to look the roof up and down for any large or minor repairs, and think about what to keep in mind When Installing Rooftop Solar Panels. Decide, along with a contractor what changes will need to take place when it comes to the water flowing off of the roof. The direction in which the water is currently flowing may change after the panels are placed onto the brackets etc. So, be prepared and make the necessary changes prior. The shape pf the roof matters, because you want to make sure there is enough room for the solar equipment. And lastly, choose solar panels that you are sure will hold the equipment. Yes, roofs can collapse, due to weight, but with proper preparation this can be avoided. |
