Save the Environment with Solar Power

by Finn Pierson | 06-03-2020 11:41 recommendations 0

In the United States, businesses and homeowners are choosing to ditch thermoelectric power, involving the use of harmful fossil fuels, for a more sustainable power source – solar energy. Solar energy harnesses the power of the sun to create clean, renewable electricity. Switching to solar is a major decision, but one that will reduce your carbon footprint and your overall environmental impact. The following benefits are just a few of the advantages that making the change to solar power will provide.

Solar Power Prevents Air Pollution

In the United States, most electricity is generated from burning fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas. The burning of these fossil fuels creates greenhouse gas emissions, which, in turn, reduces air quality and contributes to climate change. In recent years, climate change has been a major factor in serious environmental issues. Just a few of these include extreme weather events, rising sea levels and changes in entire ecosystems. In addition, public health concerns are caused by fossil fuel emissions such as nitrous oxide, sulfur dioxide and other particulates. These gasses are directly linked to various respiratory issues, and solar power reduces cases of health problems related to these emissions. Going solar can help mitigate some of the damage caused by climate change. Solar panels are fueled by the sun, allowing for a reduction in demand for fossil fuels. The energy created by solar power, therefore, is cleaner and completely renewable.

Solar Power Prevents Water Waste

Producing solar power requires no water. In areas experiencing drought or heat wave, solar power remains consistent. Thermoelectric sources of power, including coal, natural gas and nuclear power, require large amounts of water for cooling. For areas facing extreme heat or drought, using solar panels eliminates the need for water in electricity production. Water can then be kept for agriculture, drinking water and other important needs.

Solar Power Prevents Water Pollution

In addition to wasting large amounts of water during the cooling process, thermoelectric power plants use water to manage and transport waste. Often, wastewater contains toxic metals and other harmful chemicals. If improperly disposed, wastewater can make its way into waterways and even soil, contaminating everything it touches. Since solar photovoltaic panels require no water for electricity creation, no water is wasted during the process of production. This results in cleaner drinking water for you, your family and all other creatures who inhabit this planet.

Solar Power Prevents Noise Pollution

Noise pollution is a form of pollution that is often overlooked but is something that has a great impact on human and animal life. High noise levels can affect the cardiovascular health of humans. Animals suffer even greater impacts, as noise levels can interfere with reproduction, navigation and avoidance of predators. One major source of outdoor pollution is electrical generators. Solar panels, on the other hand, produce very little noise. As solar panels convert solar energy to electricity, only a slight ¡°hum¡± emanates from the panel. During the night, noise isn¡¯t generated at all.

Solar Power Prevents Natural Resource Depletion

As the world population continues to grow, demand for energy will continue to increase. Earth¡¯s most abundant energy source comes from the sun, and it will never be depleted. In contrast, oil, coal and natural gas are finite resources. Eventually, these energy sources will either be gone, or the cost of extraction will make them an impractical energy source. Substituting thermoelectric power with solar will protect against the exhaustion of these valuable natural resources.

If you¡¯re looking to reduce your carbon footprint and preserve the environment, consider making the switch to solar. In harnessing the power of the sun, you are taking an important step towards the future of clean energy production.
