Learning by seeing through own vision and learning by listening from others make a huge difference in learners. I am the one with some knowledge of Hydroponics but never had any ideas how to. Agricultural study, research and extension tour organized by HAVS helped me to overcome my confusion regarding hydroponics method. I used to think that Hydroponics only means growing plant with their roots suspended directly into water with no growing medium. But it is only a type of hydroponics gardening that is known as nutrient film technique. And several types of nutrient film technique exist around world. Another confusion about nutrient is that, required nutrient is provided through fertigation, but not directly. We had visited to Lumbini hydroponics, Rupandehi, Nepal where we got to know about hydroponics, green house and equipment like Auto fan, Insect trap. Well, new for me was their homemade equipment which was made with pipe with some holes, filled with coco peat and was inserted into the bucket filled with water and dissolved nutrients. According to them, it is very useful alternatives if you want to start with less area. This equipment was the highlight for all of us. Overall learnings made a conclusion that starting as a job is very difficult, as cost of installation is very high, better care is important, mistakes and system malfunctions affect plants faster. But still you can try in a small scale. During the visit an Idea just popped in my head that we can try this at home. So, we choose fenugreek seed and tried with the knowledge we got and the result was successful. Happy for this. |
