Getting The Most Out of Solar Panels

by Finn Pierson | 21-03-2020 08:30 recommendations 0

The environment and the state of our planet is a hot topic right now. Now, more than ever, we need to find ways to be more environmentally friendly or to "go green." A very effective and beneficial way to help out the planet is by investing in solar panels for solar energy.

What is Solar Energy?

Solar energy involves the process of harnessing the energy from the sun¡¯s light and heat and then converting that energy into electricity for easy use. Solar energy is captured by using special photovoltaic panels. These panels can be installed on the roof of your home to provide a renewable energy source.

The three main types of solar panels are monocrystalline, polycrystalline and thin-film. The performance and cost vary by type, making it easy for anyone to find a solution that works for any particular situation. Monocrystalline panels require less space than other panels and are also the most highly efficient. A less expensive option than the monocrystalline panels is the polycrystalline type, however, they don't have quite the same level of efficiency. Thin-film panels can be more attractive than the first two options. They can perform well in almost any temperature and are not affected by some areas of shade. The drawback to this type of solar panel is that they need more space than the other types, so they may not be feasible for use in some residential areas. Do some research to see which option makes the most impact on your situation and be sure to consult with a professional for advice on the best panels for your use.

Benefits of Going Solar

There are many benefits to deciding to go solar. Renewability is perhaps the most important benefit of solar energy. Since the sun provides this energy, it will never run out. It is available everywhere. It's one of the few truly and easily renewable forms of energy. Another point of major importance is that solar energy is clean energy, with no harmful pollution that can be a byproduct of other energy sources. Once the initial costs of installing solar panels have been met, solar energy will greatly impact your electric bill, for the better.

Your solar panels may even provide all of the energy that you need in your home. If you have a surplus in the energy provided that you don¡¯t use, you could even be reimbursed for that amount. Another benefit of going solar is the versatility of solar energy. It can be used for heat as well as electricity. And once your solar panels are installed, they typically don¡¯t require much maintenance. Adding solar panels even increases the value of your home.

How Much Does it Cost?

The cost of installing solar energy panels may concern you, but there are many options to consider. You can choose to purchase the solar panels and have them installed. Loans are also available to finance the panel installation. Some companies offer a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) which means the company will install the panels at no cost to you, and you will then be responsible for paying for the amount of power that is used in your home. This is a varying payment depending upon usage and is usually a lower cost than typical utilities.

A similar option, a solar lease, also has the company install panels free of charge, and then you will pay a fixed monthly payment to the company that is based upon the average expected energy usage. Of course, any cost would be far surpassed by the benefits you would receive from using solar energy. For example, consider how installing solar panels in Orlando would be a good investment, given the amount of sun this city gets!

Whether you are looking to be more environmentally conscious and reduce your carbon footprint, or are interested in saving money, or both, this renewable resource can be a great place to start.
