Christmas Gifts You Can Make Yourself

With the holiday season approaching, it's time to start thinking about Christmas gifts. Whether you're worried about the crowds at the mall or trying to be more conscious of unnecessary plastic packaging, there are many reasons to create your holiday gifts yourself this year. There are many DIY projects that you can do at home with minimal supplies that turn into great presents. One of the best things about homemade gifts is that they're totally customizable and you can tailor each gift to the likes of each person. Use these suggestions to plan out this year's holiday gifts without breaking the bank.

Blanketes

Whether you want to knit, crochet or make a blanket out of fleece fabric, it is a great gift for anyone. Plus, making it on your own saves you money. You can buy yarn or fabric in bulk and for a low price. Other than that, all you need is some time and a little practice. Chunky blankets are easier than traditional knitting and take less time due to the fact that they're bigger and bulkier but just as comfortable. Fleece blankets can take under 30 minutes with a sewing machine, and the fabric comes in many different patterns and colors, making it easy to find one for everyone on your list.

Customizable Tote Bags

Tote bags are useful for just about anyone; they can be used as a reusable grocery bag, a handbag, an overnight bag or a work bag. You can buy a canvas tote bag or buy them in bulk for everyone on your list and personalize it for each person. You can buy fabric paint and create artistic designs or write each person's initials. You can also embroider a design or tie-dye the tote bag to make it unique. Many craft store also sell iron-on patches that take only a few minutes to put on a tote bag.

Chalkboard Coasters

You can buy chalkboard coasters from any local craft store. From there, all you need is a few chalk markers or actual chalk. You can decorate the coasters with quirky sayings, personalized names or a few artistic designs. The best part about these is that they can be reused if you use actual chalk. It can also be a fun DIY gift for kids.

Lip Scrubs

Lip scrubs can be expensive if you buy them from a high-end beauty store, but they're easy to make from home and make a great self-care Christmas gift. All you need is an exfoliant and a nourishing agent, such as brown sugar and honey. You can also add in a few drops of essential oil. Mix all of the ingredients together and store it in a sealable container until you're ready to gift it.

Soy Candles

Candles are a great gift for anyone, and they're easy to make at home. All you need is soy wax chips and scented oil melted in a pot. If you want to make it look great, add some colored dye. From there, you can add a wick into the bottom of a candle jar. After your wax is poured in and dried, you can cut the wick and wrap up to give for Christmas.

Homemade Snow Globes

Snow globes are popular during winter especially. With a mason jar, some glycerin, glitter and a small figurine or centerpiece glued to the center of the jar lid, you can create this iconic holiday gift. For an added touch, you can paint the jar lid for a pop of color.

The holiday season can be a magical time, but it can also bring added stress. Avoid the hassle of crowded stores and expensive gifts by making your own DIY gifts.
