Karnataka's Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has confirmed the establishment of the state's first dedicated environment university. This move towards prioritizing environmental education and research is expected to set a precedent for other states in India.

The university, tentatively named Sahyadri University, will be built with a budget close to 600 crores and will utilize the existing campuses and buildings of agricultural and forestry colleges in Sirsi. The forestry college in Sirsi is one of only two in the state.

While there are already several universities in India offering courses in environmental subjects, Sahyadri University will be the first to be dedicated solely to environmental education and research. It will offer courses in a variety of environmental fields and conduct research in areas such as climate change, biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development.

The establishment of Sahyadri University is a response to the growing need for specialized institutions in the field of environmental studies. With the world facing unprecedented environmental challenges, it is crucial that future generations are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle these issues.

In conclusion, the confirmation of Sahyadri University is a significant development in the field of environmental education in Karnataka and India. It is expected to attract students from across the country and contribute to the growth of environmental expertise in the region.
