In September 2021, the Prime Minister of India announced plans to introduce E20 fuel across the country by 2025. This move is in line with the government's aim to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and promote the use of renewable and sustainable energy sources. E20 fuel, which contains 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline, has been gaining popularity in the country due to its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. Ethanol is a renewable biofuel made from crops such as sugarcane and corn and is less polluting than traditional gasoline. The Indian government has set a target to achieve 20% ethanol blending with gasoline by 2030. The use of E20 fuels in India could have a significant impact on the environment by reducing harmful emissions from vehicles. Ethanol production requires large quantities of sugarcane and corn, which can provide an additional source of income for farmers. Growing crops for ethanol production can also help promote sustainable agricultural practices, such as crop rotation and reduced use of fertilizers and pesticides. To conclude, the introduction of E20 fuels across India is a positive step towards achieving the country's environmental conservation goals. E20 will certainly benefit India, but we'll need to be mindful of other green energy advancements that could outdate ethanol. Algal oil, for instance, reduces dependence on farmland.
