Adopting Greener Mindsets in the world of Greenwashing

by Vani Miglani | 17-02-2023 21:53 recommendations 0

It is a sad yet undeniable truth that the consumers today value the tag of ¡®being green¡¯ more than a ¡®greener mindset and lifestyle¡¯. Every other company or brand advertises their products as environment friendly, claiming it is made of re cycled fabric; however, they are manufactured mostly from polyester or re cycled plastic. Amidst this trend of misrepresentation of products for making them preferred as a conscious choice by consumers, the genuine concern of environmentalists for a greener lifestyle is certainly drowned deep down if not lost.

It is worth considering that where on the one hand being ecologically responsible involves ¡®shopping less¡¯ or shopping only when needed, the companies that deceive consumers by labelling themselves as ¡®eco friendly¡¯, consciously promote buying more of their products to the unconscious consumers. Moreover, it takes the guilt away from the purchases ensuring further harm through extensive buying.

Furthermore, these false claims add to the destruction of the planet by creating immense toxic wastes. From aeroplanes to cars, cereals to beverages, furniture to cleaning supplies — innumerable companies go greenwashing, increasingly adding to the use of plastic, use of wood, green house gases emissions, etc.
These endorsements divert the attention to newer wars, sidelining the main issues and concerns in regards to saving the ecology.

It is important for companies to be transparent and honest about their environmental claims, and for consumers to do their research and support genuinely sustainable companies. Regulatory bodies can also play a crucial role in combating greenwashing by introducing regulations and penalties for false advertising. By working together, we can combat greenwashing and promote a more sustainable future.

Being aware of greenwashing can remind us to not be attached to external tags. It also tests our research abilities. So be on the lookout for such false claims, everyone!
