[Theme] zero emission transport

The substantial grow of urban population is a call for cities to become more sustainable so as to meet their needs and reduce the environmental impacts of urbanization. One of the better way to achieve this is by employing sustainable eco-friendly urban technologies, which involves the use of innovative technologies and approaches to improve the sustainability of cities. These technologies may include renewable energy source, smart infrastructures, and urban farming. Their viewpoint at mitigation, adaptation or both combined.

About half of the world¡®s population are living in urban areas, a number that will increase to 68% by 2050. These areas are remarkable industrial gatherings and cities, energies with electricity, road interconnections and internet. It is for this reason that they account for ¨ú of all energy consumed and produce 70% of GHG emission.

One of the major largest emitters of CO2 is the transport sector and contributes to air pollution in urban areas. It is therefore important for urban areas to engage in transport decarbonization as to meet zero emission by 2050.

In other to achieve this, global road, transport electrification can be considered as a pivotal to decarbonization. Given that the transport sector accounts for approximately 1/4 of global enemy related CO2 emissions, it demands that meeting the 1.50 C target requires a swift and substantial reduction of green house gas from the transport sector by a massive uptake of electrification technology.   The use of bicycle or animals (horses and camels) for short or long distance workout and low powered electrified vehicles offers the largest decarbonization potentials for land-based transport, on life cycle basis.

Also accelerating the transition away from new sales of diesel and petrol vehicles with increasing the zero emission light duty vehicles. In addition, accelerating the productivity level and share of heavy zero emission vehicles will help meet our global climate goals by 2050.

There is also a need to complement zero emission strategies. This can be achieved by setting up goals of budget spent on public transport railways, shared mobility, cycling and walking while accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles by funding charging infrastructure.

Mitigating, adapting and or placing carbonized transportation means with decarbonized transportation means will go a long way to meet  zero transport emission by 2050.
