Eco-friendly Hotel

by Aaditya Singh | 06-02-2014 04:03 recommendations 0

We often point out the negative impact that we are generating for the planet due to our activities. Today I want to share with all members, something positive that I came across on the street.

While walking to one of my co-curricular classes near my home I came across a sign board outside a hotel that made me feel very optimistic. The sign board was very simple and straightforward, yet very powerful. It merely showed how long different products take to decompose. No lectures, no horror stories and no big instructions, but still a picture that spoke alot.

I have stayed in many hotels in different parts of the world while on holidays. I have noticed a great increase in Eco tourism, ever since I have started understanding the concept, in the last couple of years. In most hotels, I have seen and appreciated requests to guests to save water by using their bed sheets and towels for at least two days and asking for a change on alternate days or more. While at home, we change towels and bed linen once a week unless required otherwise. We follow the same principle even when we stay in a hotel. Just because we have the luxury of getting them replaced daily, does not mean that we need to abuse that luxury at the cost of wasting water.

I have seen such posters about decomposition duration of various materials on the web and in drawings, but never came across something like this sign board in a hotel or another residential or commercial building. I was happy to see it in my own city and that too in a small hotel. I went in and congratulated the staff and manager. They were pleased that a child had noticed their efforts and were confident that their guests would notice and pay attention too!

Walking further down, I came across a bright and colourful flower-bed that tempted me to take a picture using it as a background. Nature is so beautiful that its beauty should deter us from hurting it with our harmful activities. So sharing the picture with all of you.

Let us all keep our efforts on towards a bright Eco-friendly future...

I liked the signboard also :) Wow, thanks for sharing Aaditya. I agree with you. We don't need to change the sheets everyday in hotel to stay luxurious.
