Under the distinguish patronage of the vice chancellor of the university of Buea in partnership with the ministry of environment and Protection of Nature, we decided to celebrate World Environment Day on the 05th of June by organizing the second annual climate change conference in the university of Buea. We came from different academic backgrounds and upbrings but had one common focus "ENVIRONMENT, EDUCATION, YOUTH AND CLIMATE CHANGE". We were also determine to make the campus of the university of Buea Green through Tree planting.
We were made up of youth leaders, students organizations, policy makers, academicians and future planners. On this day, we roll up our sleeves and joint hands on the environmental day campaign. "We are all dedicated in fighting climate change, promoting positive environmental action to save our future, through education, training and sensitization" said Prof. Nalova Lionga, the vice Chancellor. The delegate of environment and protection of nature with other stake holders also made important speeches laying emphasis on the theme of the World Environment Day and how important it is to create a sustainable relationship between people and their environment. We were all enlightened on the serious concern over climate change, energy consumption, food and water security, global poverty and inequality in the global environmental agenda. We took in to action an immediate environmental day campaign responsibility to "green" the university of Buea campus and other schools across the country. Without no hesitation, we started planting environmental friendly trees provided by the ministry of environment and promising to take care of them. It was full of fun and each person had two trees to look after. The event was spiced with a short theater art showing the relationship between culture and climate change and how local farmers adapt to climate change. This laudable World Environmental Day celebration was like a launching of a green revolution in the university of Buea campus to show that the future is green. This gave an applaud to the Tunza Eco-generation ambassador who invited other youths to join the UNEP and SAMSUNG to make their voices heard, for every candle matters. We came to the conclusion that climate change is the biggest threat to life and modern life styles on earth and thus needs universal action.
