China's War against Air Pollution

by | 26-05-2017 02:10 recommendations 0

China's smoggiest cities have decided to tackle pollution after the air quality in major parts of the country deteriorated in the first few months of this year. Top officials from seven districts in Beijing, Tianjin and other sub urban cities in Hebei and Shanxi territories were scolded by the environmental watchdog for lax control of pollution this year reported China Daily.

The officials have promised to submit a plan of action very soon to the Ministry of Environmental Protection so that the problem can be resolved as quickly as possible.

The news came as toxic smog dominated the capital encompassing urban cities for a greater part of this year often forcing some regions to issue an orange , the second-highest level as pollution levels became hazardous.

A month ago, Hebei, the northern region home to six of China's 10 smoggiest urban cities in the first  two months of 2017, said it would take stern action to shutdown old ?coal fired? power plants, promote new vehicles and shift industries.

The province has gained popularity for decision of a three year ?war? on pollution and has guaranteed to slice coal utilization as well as shut wasteful/ old mechanical plants.

The ministry's warning followed after a month long inspection and noticed serious violations of the rules, such as poor adherence to restrictions on smoggy days. It was also mentioned that regular checks will be made to make sure rules are being adhered to. China?s war on pollution aims to reverse the damage it has done to its skies, water and soil after decades of untrammelled economic growth.

Hi again Nilanjan! Thanks for sharing your report on China's action toward better air quality. Pollutants generated by one country are not only limited to that country. It rather travles to its neiborhood country, which is the case of China and Korea. Hope there woule be clear improvements on this matter!

Thanks for your report Nilanjan. China is an example of heavy economic and industrial growth having led to air pollution. When I had visited China, I was appalled to see the visible heavy smog in major cities like Beijing and Shanghai. Let us hope that the Chinese think-tanks and public will be able to tackle this problem soon

Nilanjan, thank you for your report. We could well see what China has been focusing on recently. Since China is going through severe air pollution, all the other nations could learn from China how to deal with air pollution. Although it is significant to analyze the cause of such air pollution, we could also learn a lot from the solution China tries to initiate.
