Impacts of nuclear waste on the environment

by | 26-05-2017 04:06 recommendations 0

Hello to all Ambassadors from all over the world. Before discussing the impact of nuclear waste on the environment, let me define it as non-reusable residues from nuclear power plants and essentially characterized by the presence of radiation-emitting radioactive products. There are tons of radioactive waste that remains dangerous for thousands of years at each treatment site. They are classified into four categories, namely "high-level and long-lived wastes" "Low-level and long-lived waste" "Low- and intermediate-level waste" and "low-level waste". In the African countries, for lack of means or reasons that I do not know, its waste is stored in the open air and forming mountains thus generating the radioactive contamination of water, permanent propagation of radon in the air and Risk of its dispersion by the air, disappearance of the fauna, the vegetal cover and the modification of the landscape. Liquid nuclear waste contains more than 85% of the original radioactivity. Considering the dangers of its waste on the environment and human health, that the leaders of mining companies are committed to finding lasting solutions for the conservation of nuclear waste. Thank you.

Hi Tevi! Thanks for sharing your report on impact of nuclear waste.
Keeping nuclear waste on the ground can cause serious dangers to not only environment, but human being. Hope governents official would be more concious about this issue.

Tevi, it is very worrying to note about such improper disposal of radioactive waste. I hope public concern would shake the authorities into action.

Tevi, thank you for your report. So in Africa nuclear waste is just out there where people are. If the waste don??t get to be well moved into somewhere else, it is going to do severe harm to the people of Africa. If you see any changes, any major solutions by governments please tell us.
