As we know, in the previous proposal we elaborated the next planning of the project that was field visiting to CIFOR Headquarters and attending the Global Landscape Forum. In this session, the students were engaged to discuss with scientists from Center for International Forestry Research resided at CIFOR Headquarters, Bogor, Indonesia. In addition, because of the presence of the 2017 Global Landscape Forum (GLF), in this session the IGAF delegates discussed with CIFOR, UNEP, ICRAF, WRI, and other international institutions about climate change, peatland, forest fires, and other ecological issues affecting health, socio and economic facet.

The Forum invited more than 1000 participants ranging from youths to adults, academicians to experties from national and international levels. However, in our session attended by us there were about 200 participants including youths, academicians, experts, UN officers, and public policy makers. The session was held on JS Luwansa hotel on 18 May 2017 in conjuction with Global Landscape Forum 2017, Jakarta. The session was intended to unite similar aggrement and perspective to ecological issues, especially forestry and peatlands matters as well as climate change, and the results will be harnessed to the Global Landscape Forum 2017 in Germany in conjuction with COP23, UNFCCC Meeting 2017. In the discussion our delagate led by Mr. Achmad Solikhin were positively asking questions during the session, which was held by UNEP Headquarters. The questions, which were addressed are as follows:

a.       What are the roles of youths on addressing climate change issues, most notably, on tackling the forest fires and peatlands fires in Indonesia? What do you need from us as youths?

b.       Do you take a consideration for cross-border children who are affected by peatlands fires? effects, such as haze, pollution, health? How do you consider the regards towards the climate action?

c.        How do you encourage indigenous people or local communities to harness social media for understanding the actual or up-to-date data about climate change or forest fires in Indonesia if theya are marginalized with the existance of technology?

Most of the speakers or scientists who involved in the discussion attempted to answer the questions based on their experiences they have. In addition, they had a courage to respond the importance of youths in tackling or addressing climate change issues with their initiative and passion they have. During the panel session, especially question and answer session, most of the youths were eagered to know in detail their roles and reflected their roles to tackle tropical forestry problems and climate change burdens by means of actual actions to the ground. In addition, not only from us the questions were delivered, but also from local communities and indigenous people who had great curiousity to tackle these above problems. They asked much more about peatlands matters and solution in which their existances are marginalized, and technologies are positively rare to be implemented there.

After attending the Forum and session, all IGAF delegates brought a great mission and vision to actualize all of they got to the Carbon Farming Schools. Their mision and vision will be actualized into the activities, which have been infiltrated in the Carbon Farming Schools. For instance, we will benefit some novel knowledges about climate change and carbon sequestration, and the knowledge will be translated into simple and affordable technologies for students and youths as well as local communities. I am personally benefiting the connection between IGAF and scientists to help supervise the schools and improve the quality of the schools. In addition, I do expect the scientists and international organizations can help promote the schools of being well-recognized in the global forum.

At final pace of the Forum, we, IGAF delegates, discussed further the actualization of the Forum results to enhance the Carbon Farming Schools project. In the project, all of the above expectation will be used for the attraction of the Carbon farming Schools? targeted participants. Most of the students getting involven in the schools are by far needing funny and enjoy moments so as the courses or education, which are given to them will be easily to be imparted sustainably.
