I am the student of Agriculture studying in Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Lamjung Campus. As we all know, Agriculture, Environment and Climate are all directly linked up with eachother. In this report I will be focusing on Challenges and Issues in Agriculture Productivity Enhancement. Agriculture employs about 65% population in Nepal and it contributes about 28% of the GDP. Growth in agriculture is critical for overall economicdevelopment. Sustainable development in agriculture in rural area is also essential for; - Ensure food and nutrition security of growing population - Adapt and mitigate to changing climate - Reduce rural urban migration and feminization and aging in agriculture - Reduce land abandonment and environmental degradation in rural areas Challenges and Issues in Agriculture Productivity Enhancement • Use of low productive rainfed marginal land in agriculture • Limited access to knowledge, land, inputs, finance and technological and business support • Low incentives and amenities in rural areas and increasing urbanization • High drudgery, high cost of production and low return from farming • Negative impact of climate change (increasing drought, flooding, natural disaster, pest & disease incidence) • Poor value addition and market linkage of agricultural products and uncertain/volatile market systems • Poor institutional base and policy weakness for commercialization and youth engagement in agriculture |
