Clean up campaign in BPKMCH B. P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital (BPKMCH) is the first national cancer center of its kind for the fight against cancer in Nepal. The felt need of the hour was a competent establishment that would be able to fulfill the need of the people of Nepal. In a country rife with poverty, illiteracy the harsh geographical terrain and an almost negligible access to basic health facilities, this institution is envisioned to bridge that gap. Though there are no national survey records, it is estimated that deaths due to cancer are approximated at 120 per 100,000. And the assumption is that there are 35000 to 40000 cancer patients in the country at any given space of time. This hospital provide high quality services for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research on Cancer, and to gain self-reliance in human resource required for the same. Due to increasing number of patients and numbers of shops around the hospital, it is being polluted with wrappers and plastic. Hospital does not play any role to control to stop pollution outside of its compound. Inside hospital we can find no pollution with plastic. We some young people with eco-friendly mind gathered to make hospitals¡¯ periphery free of plastic. We started to clean outside the hospital every Saturday from 8 am to 9 am. The main aim of cleanliness campaign is awaking the local people and make hospital periphery neat and clean. We are running this campaign until and unless we see zero plastic around the hospital. We are running in 10th week of our campaign. Local government body (Ward) is also paying attention towards our work along with staffs of hospital. People from municipality and volunteers from town are helping us to clean the hospital. Not only cleaning make sense, so we aware every local shops and peoples to convince their costumers not throw any wrappers, plastic and other waste around hospital. Dustbins are placed outside the hospitals. We are doing our best to solve the plastic pollution around the hospital. Thank you.
