Bitcoin is a form of crypto currency.Crypto currencies are a kind of currency just like other that serves as a means to facilitate trading. However,it is special in that,it is not by any centralized bank or government. Bitcoin has radically changed the payment model for worldwide transactions. So far in 2018,the number of transactions has ranged between the 150,000 and 400,000 per day level, but now,as more and more people worldwide start using Satoshi Nakamoto's controversial creation, serious questions are being raised about the bitcoin environmental impact.Mining today reqiures specialized application specific integrated circuit [ASIC]hardware to handle the computationally intensive processing needed to''solve blocks'' or verify transactions and add them to the blockchain. These machines run hot and use a significant amount of electricity to perform the complex calculations involved in mining. As a result, the Bitcoin network uses an increasingly substantial amount of electricity to maintain the blockchain by some estimates around 32TWh per year. There is no question that the Bitcoin Network is indeed using a huge amount of electricity. The environment impact of this however has much less to do with the amount of electricity being used than it does with how that electricity is being generated. While it is difficult to get specific numbers,it is widely known that a significant majority of the world's Bitcoin mining happens in China, where electricity is cheap and comes primarily from burning coal, and it b is due to the high demand of electricity that Bitcoin mining demands, individuals who want to start bitcoin farms do this in regions where energy is cheap like in China and Russia, the energy productions in these regions is not clean as they are primarily created through the burning of coal and other fossils fuels, which is what makes the energy cheap. However with the likelihood of cracking down on the access to cheap non-renewable energy,it is easy to imagine that mining will do just as many other technologies have done and evolve to changing standards, adopting more sustainable methods and more efficient machines,as long as there are still profits to be made. There already are innovative approaches to using renewable energy such as solar, wind and hydro-electric power to operate mining equiptment .Scientist worldwide have been sounding the alarm for years in relation to humanity Carbon Footprint. The environmental impact of technology as a whole is something that the international community will almost certainly be struggling with for many decades to come. While it is important to acknowledge Bitcoins role in contributing to the much larger issue of energy consumption, society should also recognize that the unpresidented rise in Bitcoins popularity over the past years has forced this issue to fore front only very recently. So far,it appears that the growing global interest in mining may create a new avenue to innovation for renewable energy as manufacturers compete to develop and optimize efficient mining equiptment. The world is already seeing action from governments,Entrepreneurs,Environmentalists and members of the Bitcoin community to develop more sustainable solutions.Ref themarketmogul.com |

Hello Tantoh, your report covers and takes quite a large and vast range of relative topics that I am not familiar :(
I read it like 3 times right now, but I think it is better off to go through several keywords and especially their correlation and system to understand your report!
May I add my comments for your report tomorrow? :)

Yes Rosa you have a point there, thank you so much your comments. Its means so much to me . Bitcoins can??t exist without computers, which can??t exist without a source of electricity and the number of computers and the energy needed to power them is rising.Do you know that one transaction can use as much energy as an entire household does in a week?

Hello Tantoh
Block chain technology is now being widely studied as this has opened a new era for transactions that are safe even without the role of a centralized force. Various applications of this technology were introduced in classes and the most recent one was about shifting from EDI(Electronic data interchange) to block chain for better supply chain management for shipping. And most of my learnings simply saw the bright side of this technology and I realized that I haven't thought about where all these energies come from!
So thanks for letting me broaden my sight on this matter :)
Thanks for the report!

Brother I guess bitcoin is more beneficial for transaction since the traditional notes are produced through the cutting of trees. In this sense I guess crypto currency at least saves our trees that are too beneficial for cleaner environment

Hi Tantoh!
Bitcoin has really risen exponentially over the past few years nd has gained so many users. To this regard, I would assume by now that the cyber service provider would look into environmentally friendly routes in terms of acquiring energy. It may take time to fully see the transition, but with the cyber Bitcoin community growing, they should think of practical ways to accommodate the sensitive environment.
Thank you Tantoh! Very interesting report, not one that I would expect, but still... Excellent choice!
