Nowadays, environmental issues have been becoming one of the most discussed topic in many occasions, whether it is on national, regional or even international scales. This phenomenon happens in all parts of the world that gives various impacts to the societies' well-being living around. The environmental issue may also reduce the variety of biodiversity on the affected area that will also take the living rights of the creatures around. In this report, I would like to introduce you to the biggest environmental issue that Indonesia face every year. Forest fire is like an annual agenda that happens in Indonesia. All the forests in both Sumatera and Kalimantan (Borneo) are the most vulnerable forests that can be included to this issue. There are several factors that pushes this issue to happen in Indonesia, these are non-other than the increasing demand of open-land to plant palm trees that could produce the high-value palm oils, industrialization activities, and the need to create residential areas. The forest fires occurring in Indonesia have always had an impact on declining societies' productivity, closure of schools for certain periods of time, and increased respiratory diseases. In 2015, Indonesia experienced the worst forest fire in its history. It was approximately more than 100,000 hotspots burning million hectares of forest and land in the country especially in the island of Sumatera. As a result of that, many animals and people are becoming the victims. In addition, the phenomenon has also accelerated the extinction of rare animals protected by the government in Indonesia such as Sumatran Tiger. Moreover, the forest fires happened in Indonesia not only give impacts on the national scale but also affects the neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. The Air Composite Standards Index in Pekanbaru and Palembang as the place where the forest fire happens shows a concerning level of PM 10 concentration wide spread, which reached the level of concentration that categorized unhealthy. Furthermore, the concentration of other pollutant such as carbon monoxide and PM 2.5 has go beyond the limit that makes the circumstances more dangerous. Thus, from this phenomenon we may conclude that human's behavior and its greediness could affect the sustainability of our planet. As a young generation, we should start the revolutions of mankind's bad behavior and greediness towards the environment by serving ourselves to protect this earth, especially our forests that produces oxygen for our well-beings. Me and my friends served the earth by planting trees at the northern part of Bandung, Indonesia so that we hope the air in Bandung will be clearer than it was by the help of the trees we plant. Have you guys had plan to serve our earth in the near future? If yes, what is your plan? If you guys don?t mind please do let me know at the comment column below. Hope someday, as the next generation of our earth we could together give positive impacts to sustain and conserve our beloved planet, Earth. Image 1. Planting Trees in Bandung Image 2. Hi, Rheza! Thank you for your report on forest fires in Indonesia. I used to live in southern California when I was young, and forest fires were a huge problem there as well (and they still are). Forest fires can cause immense amounts of damage in a short period of time destroying the area and killing wildlife. Since forest fires usually occur from natural causes, most citizens are concerned with only whether the fire was extinguished and how much damage was caused. It's not common for regular people to go to the site and try to restore the environment, because the fires usually do not directly affect them. I admire how you participated in restoring the damaged environment by planting trees in the area :) I think we should all actively take part in taking care of our environment, and you've set a great example. Great work!

Thanks for your well-written report! My country, South Korea is also sick of air pollution problems in these days. Air pollution problems due to many reasons are dangerous because it could spread through wind or air movements toward another regions or countries. In Indonesia's case, I recognize that forest fire impacts negatively on their society in a various way. Of course, planting trees is the way to serve the earth but before that, I think it's more important to prevent any factors which have high possibility of causing a forest fire. It could be a climate condition or humans' activity etc. And about your suggestion, actually my family have our own plan to serve the earth which is 'Do not drive a car during a weekend'. My parents drive a car every weekday to go to the workplace but they try to take a walk or use public transportation during a weekend. As car emits plenty amounts of exhaust gas while we drive, we believe our action could lead positively to reduce air pollution so to serve the earth!
