Environment-friendly cable cars in Turkey's Black Sea Region
A cable car is any of a variety of transportation systems relying on cables to pull vehicles along or lower them at a steady rate. The cable car vehicles are motorless and engineless and they are pulled by a cable that is rotated by a motor off-board. In one word, the cable car is environmentally friendly.
Turkey, committed to sustainable tourism has decided to use environmentally friendly facilities in all its touristic destinations, the implementation has just started this week as said the 12th Region Director of Nature Conservation and National Parks Mr Bulut.
New cable cars are due to be operated by 2017 in the most visited places in the Black Sea region, including the historic Sümela Monastery in Trabzon Maçka district, the world famous Uzungöl in the Çaykara district, the Karşyaka Nature Park in Gümüşhane, and the Kaçkar Mountains in Rize.
Turkey does not have a strong eco-tourism environment as Botswana, Kenya or Ecuador. This situation is lamentable. This situation must change if the state wants to be the first tourism destination in the world.
Hoping all countries use environmentally actions and systems to solve sustainable issues.

Gallimard, thanks for writing :D I also agree with Minjoo, and I think she's referring to a particular movement that happened among Korean environmentalists group when the government tried to build a cable up in the mountain to boost up tourism inside the country. The main opposition was that by installing the cable car, some parts of the mountains will have to be dug up, and eventually easier access to the peak would make it even more open to damage by the tourists. Well that was the whole point :p Thanks a lot for bringing us news from Turkey!

allimard, I have seen cable cars in mountain areas or vacation places in my country as well. I want to point out one thing, that cable cars may 'run' without requiring energy, but it may not always be environmentally friendly since causing some damage to the nature during construction is inevitable. Thanks for sharing!

Cable cars are efficient, environmentally friendly, safe, cost-effective and fast way of mass transport especially in tourist areas. Having these cable cars in Turkey's most visited places- is a right move towards sustainable tourism. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Gallimard, we have cable cars in Nepal as well but only in one place: Manakamana temple which is one of the famous religious site. I am so happy to hear Turkey will be operating eco- friendly cars in tourist destinations by 2017. It's fun riding in cable cars :)

I find that cable cars are a very efficient way to travel in hilly areas, even though I have never quite been in one (I would love to). I was just reading an article about how cable cars have replaced diesel buses in Medellin, which goes a long way in reducing CO2 emission and improving the quality of air.

Very eco-friendly. Kudos to Turkey, I think the cable car system might look scary for first time users but eventually, everyone will get use to it. Nice initiative
