Uncivic behaviour irks all?Isn?t it!!!

by | 19-01-2015 21:11 recommendations 0

The youth of today are doing a plethora of activities to raise awareness on the protection of the environment. The various waste management authorities in the UAE are also doing their best to maintain the aesthetic beauty by providing lots of facilities and raising awareness among the public about the proper disposal of waste. But, the fact is that due to the callous behaviour of some people in society, the inappropriate disposal of waste is still prevalent.

I have been noticing various upholstered items like furniture, sofa sets and closets are being disposed off regularly on pavements by residents of some areas. A few days ago, I was shocked and disheartened to see numerous shards of glass that were inappropriately disposed off around the pavement in a bustling area of King Faisal Road. I couldn?t notice these scattered glasses and was about to step in this deadly trap.

Hazardous waste like these are posing a threat to the residents. I noticed that adults and children passing by the area were totally oblivious to the presence of these glass shards on the pavement. It becomes even more difficult to see these transparent glass pieces in the night, increasing the jeopardy of a fatal accident. Children and women with small babies who walk through this area are more vulnerable to such type of fatal accidents.

I have seen that a lot of workers are deployed to pick up trash from different areas and they work day and night to keep the city clean. Such inappropriate disposal of waste increases their workload.

My community report published in Gulf News and USA News breaking daily news was appreciated by all. The link of the detailed report is

I have been regularly using different mediums to request the residents to act responsibly play their part towards sustainable environment by putting recyclable waste in segregated bins provided by the authorities and for bulky waste they can call the waste management companies. Despite all these efforts, I have been noticing the careless attitude of some residents abandoning trash at different places.

We the youth of today have decided to not give up. We decided to clean up the residential areas by volunteered in Clean Up Sharjah campaign and raised awareness in community. Residents felt that gestures like this by young generation, definitely be emulated by elders.  I would also like to share some of my snaps of volunteering in first ever Clean Up Walkathon on 2nd January ,2015 from Abu Shagara Park residential area to Al Majaz waterfront which was fully supported by Bee?ah.

Let?s all pledge to work together for a greener and safer Earth? Never allow anyone to pollute your environment?

Dear Mohit I appreciate you concern towards environment and your effort for a cleaner environment. It is very pathetic to see the educated people disposing trash in the pavements or public places. It is our duty to be a role model directing them the path. Happy you are one of them. Also I would like to suggest, it would have been better if you have used dustbins for collecting wastes instead of plastic bags as it is one of the prime polluter. Salute to this holy job :)

Your community is very lucky to have such a brilliant change maker like you :)
It's easy to make face looking at the broken glasses but it's never easy to actually clean the dangerous glasses up. Thumbs up!!
