Hello and warm greeting to everyone. This is my first report in this platform as ambassador and I am feeling glad to be able to write as an ambassador. Arts and Craft is something, where most of us can actually enjoy. We use painting colors, colorful pencils etc. Pigments, binders, solvents and additives are main four ingredients that all paint consists. Along with this many other toxic substances are also mixed. The colored pencil is made of pencil casing which is made of wood slats, fillers composed of kaolin, talc and chalk, and cardboard cartoons for packaging. Production of dyes and pigments includes chemicals and water pollutants and production of wax produce carbon dioxide emissions. This doesn¡¯t mean, these types of arts are not attractive. Dried stalks of grains left after threshing or left stalk after separating grains and chaffs is said to be straw. When we talk about use of straw, things that strike in mind are we can use straw as fodder, as fuel, materials for thatching, packing or weaving, bedding for animals, biogas etc. So we can consider straw as important element of agriculture. Straw is also used for decoration purposes like; Straw dolls, basketry, Straw arts, Straw paintings etc. Art and Craft is attractive and beauty in itself and I love working with such stuffs. But art and craft with straw is one that gives satisfaction and happiness, maybe due to being agricultural student. Straw art is typically called chhwali kala. Straw art is the example of eco-friendly art as it doesn¡¯t require lots of chemical and the main component i.e straw is produced naturally . What we need to prepare a straw art are straw, papers, glue, scissors and knife, pencil. It is very simple to make. The process begins with soaking of wheat straw in water, press them with a wooden slab, cut in workable size and paste in paper with outline already drawn. Here are some pictures of straw art prepared by my friend and me. |

Hello Binita!!
I hope you are fine and doing great.
I am always overwhelmed by your creation. Among all those, I truly like your straw art.
I think it should be commercialised so that people of other part of world like Korea also be fascinated with such an eco-friendly art.
Keep up with your great work.
Keep shining.
Yours,

Warm welcome to Binita Suwal!
Thank you for joining our program and becoming an eco ambassador.
Also enjoyed reading your article about re using materials and up cycling them to a new form of art. I have only heard of 'straw art' but never really seen any pictures of them. You have some cool pictures on the article and I found it really cool.
You even shared information on how to make straw art ourselves, and I definitely want to try it out sometime.
Keep up the good work:> Hope to read great articles from you for 6 months.

Hi Binita,
This is your mentor Debbie. Welcome to the community and congratulations for sharing your first article! :)
This is my first time hearing about straw art. You and your friend's works are truly impressive! With your appreciation of art combined with your background in agriculture, Straw art seems like a well-blended leisure! I wish I could try this! I don't think they sell wheat straws in Korea though; the best we can get here is paper straws :/
It was nice hearing about the disadvantages of conventional art despite its beauty. It's sad that a lot of the things we use on a daily basis actually have pollutants or produce pollutants in the manufacturing process. I hope it gets better in the future.
Keep up with the great work! (p.s. From the last picture I see Chelsea logo. Are you a Chelsea fan? Personally I stan Tottenham ;)
Best Regards
Debbie
