Dear all,
Hope you are doing well. In a rapidly changing environment, living in a sustainable environment became the goal of many international organisations such as United Nations as well as us, human beings! Some people suffer from malnutrition, while some don't eat proportion they are given. I would like to tell you about Food Waste which I am familiar with. As a socially and academically active citizen, I have been participating in various events where the SDGs are discusses among youth. According the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation about 1.4 billion tons — to feed as many as 2 billion people each year. That's roughly one-third of the global food supply. Regarding food waste in Uzbekistan, I would say that nowadays according to recent laws as well as the lockdown measures people aren't allowed to conduct huge wedding as they used to. You would wonder why am I talking about wedding but not any other events. Here usually about 200+ people are invited for the weddings. It is a huge financial spending and also imagine so much food to be ordered, but not all of them eat or come. Just imagine how much uneaten food is left. Yet, I personally saw they are thrown into rubbish which is extremely sad to know. Hence, being involved in community work, I saw little kids who pitched their ideas to realise. The start-up was about eliminating food waste in the country by creating a mobile application . Usually, this topic has never been reported or announced on media but now it became popular which just makes happy like-minded people. The solution of the food waste for now was a very small step by raising awareness of compatriots and also diminish the number of luxurious weddings. Moreover, food waste is given to third-parties to take if needed. Hope could convey, thanks! |

Hello Vazira!
It's your SJ mentor.
I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for writing a report on the food waste issue.
I don't think the food waste problem is just a country's problem.
There is a lot of food waste in Korea, too, and this was also caused by our food culture of eating various side dishes.
I wonder how to use mobile applications to eliminate food waste.
I'd like you to explain this in detail.
Keep sharing!
Best regards,
SJ mentor.

Hello Vazira,
this is your mentor WooJoo.
I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for sharing your last thematic report of the term.
Korean people do also celebrate weddings with huge amount of food, sometimes with buffets, and I am sure that there would be much of left over every wedding day.
Due to the pandemic, my country is also restricting the number of people invited to the weddings, so I guess there might be a little decrease in food waste.
It is sad that food waste due to left over, and food crisis and hunger are ongoing at the same time, but in different countries.
Hopefully we can manage this problem better by small-city farming where people can grow their own food.
Keep sharing
Regards,
WooJoo
