As an undergraduate, we have come to the year where we have to practice field works. Though, I am a veterinarian; knowledge have no limits. During my field visit, I come to see a strawberry farm that's very limited in Nepal. There are only very few strawberry farm in Nepal. The first ever strawberry farm in the province 03 of Nepal, I was very excited to visit it. Therefore, I planned and went to visit it. It was really a very big, and we'll managed farm of strawberry cultivation.
It was started during lockdown period, almost been 6 months. The strawberry have sprouted, blossom and now it's giving it's fruit also. People of this province visit very frequently for the strawberry and this show demand for strawberry is very high. Why can't be demand high, isn't it? The nutritional benefits of strawberry is worth saying. Strawberries are bright red, juicy, and sweet. They're an excellent source of vitamin C and manganese and also contain decent amounts of folate (vitamin B9) and potassium. Strawberries are very rich in antioxidants and plant compounds, which may have benefits for heart health and blood sugar control. The folate in strawberry aids in DNA replication. These potent little packages protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. Packed with vitamins, fiber, and particularly high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. The research has showed that eating eight medium size strawberry is very good for health. The cultivation of strawberry there was basically done for research purpose of PhD student. The purpose was to find which varieties of strawberry prove best for the soil of province number 03. The trial is still ongoing. It's really very good to see the several Eco friendly practices, and development in agricultural practices by several students and universities. |

Hello Asmita!
It's your SJ mentor.
I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for writing an article about strawberry farming in Nepal.
In Korea, the demand for strawberries is very high due to their freshness and sweet taste and can actually be seen in the market.
Especially these days, strawberries can be found regardless of the season because they are farmed in greenhouses.
I didn't know about the ingredients in strawberries, thank you for letting me know.
I hope you can find suitable varieties and improve them to get good productivity.
This special crop cultivation will also increase the income of farmers.
Keep sharing!
Best regards,
SJ mentor.

Warm greetings from South Korea!
Thank you for sharing your experiences of visiting the strawberry farm.
I think that environmental friendly activities like visiting farms, climbing, collecting trashes became more common as hobbies since the pandemic broke out, beside of such cases like yours, in which it is related to your major.
I love strawberries by the way, so I am very happy to hear that eating 8 of them is helpful for the health!
I believe that you are doing great in your major, and I am sure that you will be a great veterianian.
Take care,
Regards,
WooJoo

It would be interesting to look at strawberry farms through the perspective of a veterinarian, especially if they are so rare in Nepal! The only strawberry farms I've seen were cultivated inside greenhouses so they could grow in winter, this kind of open farming method is interesting to observe. Thank you for sharing!
