Sustainable Development Goals: Targets, Achievements, Strategies and Future Strategies in context of Nepal
Sustainable Development Goals 12 Responsible Consumption and Production This goal comes under environment pillar of Sustainable Development Goals. I will be addressing about Ensuring Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns. The four targets for this SDG are: 1. Sustainable management and use of natural resources The indicators for this target are: A. Slowing the rise of petroleum use upto 15% by 2030, which is already 15.48% in 2015. B. Slowing the declination of area that is used for growing crops to 75% which is 84.17% in 2017. The strength to achieve this target would be increase in hydropower projects since Nepal is rich in water resources. Adopting the mixed cropping practice like growing legumes incorporating with other crops. The weakness to achieve this goal are; improper policy in local and national level, unmanaged urban settlement and cereal based farming. 2. Management of chemical and all wastes The indicators for this target are: A. Zero plasticby 2030. Plastic with size more than 20 micron was banned in 2010. B. Proper disposal of industrial wastes. Oxidation ponds and sludge ditches are established along with proper municipal collections. The strength for this SDG is: People are being health as well as environment conscious. However, easy habit and lifestyle that plastics has offered has been counted as weakness. 3. Substantially reduce waste generation The indicators for this target are: A. Recycling of 90% of plastics and reuse of glass and metal by industries by 2030. 12 tons per year of the plastic bottles is recycled. Metal and glass are collected by collectors. Collection bins are available at several places and collectors earn income from the collection of these wastes which has grown more consciousness among people. Still, people tends to burn the waste products unconsciously. 4. Promote Universal Understanding of Sustainable Lifestyles The indicators for this target are: A. Teaching SDGs through national educational polices and curricula. Nepal is the 1st country to produce SDG baseline study in 2015. Several medias are being used to broadcast about the Sustainable Lifestyles. However, people are more money oriented and aren't giving their time to think on this aspect. For this proper strategies is must. These strategies can be to promote clean energy usage and production, efficient farming and priority to other crops as well. People must make habit of separation of wastage i.e. biodegradable and non-biodegradable. In context of non-biodegradable waste also, plastics, metals and chemical wastage has to be separated. People must shift themselves to reusable items consumption. Various campaigns have to be conducted with volunteering participation and educating people around the globe. Earth has enough for production for each and every people however the production, the facilities that a consumer has to get is still limited while some are even deprived of while some are extravaganly consuming it. Their inequality brings conflict, chaos and disturbing world. So, let's be responsible on production and consumption. |

Greetings Asmita,
Unmanaged urban settlement and high priority to cereal based farming is also the limiting factor. Thus, there should be the end of mobilization bias to achieve our goal.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful report.

Sandesh
