Waste Segregation

by Sainath Manikandan | 04-03-2020 20:47 recommendations 0

According to my knowledge, the main aim of waste segregation at home is to separate the dry and wet wastes so that we can use the dry waste for recycling and wet wastes for composting.

How do I do waste segregation in my home?

1. We keep separate containers (both are blue in color) for the dry and wet waste. Wet wastes are collected in the kitchen. Non-recycling dry wastes are collected in another dustbin kept in the washroom.

2. I collect all dry wastes which can be recycled in our car shed such as single-use plastics (bottles, spoons) and newspapers/magazines.

3. I ensure that the plastic containers are cleaned before throwing them in the bin.

4. I also collect these dry wastes from my neighborhood, school, and send them to recycling centers.

5. I use the wet wastes such as fruit, vegetable peels for composting.

6. Garden waste – I compost the leaves in my home garden itself.

Wow Sainath! I was so moved!

Korea is also really strict about recycling process and waste segregation. However, one thing that Koreans do not keep in their minds is that they forget to clean the plastic bottle or other stuffs that the have used. Without this cleaning, recycling is almost impossible.

You've done a great job. Keep it up!

Hello Sainath! Greeting from your new mentor, Taehyun!

Great job! Trash segregation is the most important task in the recycling process. When segregation is not perfect, recycling trash is impossible. So you're doing a great job and it is really helpful for our earth!

And I quite surprised by your 6 tips which you mentioned in the writing! the third tip is especially interesting because in my country(S.Korea) cleaning plastic bottles before put into the recycling bin is mentioned in law! So everyone cleans the bottle before throw away!

Anyway, thank you for the amazing tips for recycling! Well done!
