Is there any nexus between environment and technology? This is the question that we need to answer as humans. The answer is absolutely a YES. Environment and Technology cannot be separated and then another question arises, " how are they related?". Like an relationship, Environment and Technology relationship have both negative and positive sides. Around the world there was a time that many countries began to be industrialised. Industrialisation affected positively all aspects such as politics, economic, social and legal except for our environment. In the name of technological advancement as an aid to the growth of the economies, nations destroyed the environment in many forms. Deforestation, desertification and water contamination were all forms of environment destruction by the technological advancement. Burning fossil fuels for transportation, heating and lighting as means of improving the lifestyles of people around the world. Technology advancement had a negative impact on environment but happily in this century it began to make positive impacts. Technology is resolving the problems it caused to the environment through monitoring, research and development. This century the issue of the use of electric powered cars accelerated to a higher level. The electric cars don't emmit dangerous gases to the air as electricity is a sustainable energy with greater efficiency as compared to fossil fuels. But another question arises, "What is the source of that electricity? Is it not from non-renewable energy source?" Technology improved the situation as many countries are now adopting newly discovered renewable energy sources that cannot damage the environment. The use of thermal power stations to generate electricity in developing countries is decreasing. In this century there is an increase in the use of solar energy which is environment friendly with no pollution and technology enhanced the solar energy power as it was limited to few household appliances operation. Solar energy can now power big household appliances even industrial plants as evidenced in the Silicon Valley. Zimbabwe as a case study on the use of technology in the energy sector. Zimbabwe is the early stages of environment friendly technologies but gradually it is improving. The petrol that is sold in Zimbabwe is now blended with the green fuels from sugar cane that is manufactured in Chisumbanje. The blended petrol is now relatively cheap than all other fuels which make more people buy it. The government issued millions of dollars to the innovation and research board in the energy sector to develop sources which are environmental friendly. The rural electrification is installing biogas technologies in rural areas. The biogas digester operates with biogradable wastes such as vegetables and cowdung. The gas is used for heating and lighting purposes. Technology is being used as tool for monitoring and educating people on the environment. Internet and media are used as tools for communication with the people on how environmental responsibility is a need and what to do to save our world. The information systems are now used to protect the environment as the geographical information system can easily locate and calls for action when there is a veldfire, a banned vehicle with emissions is on the road and also to monitor the pollution levels in the atmosphere. On conclusion technological tools are now making impacts on the environment positively with sustainable development aiming also on technologies. The framework and policies of any country should be aligned to the use of technology as an aid to combat environmental problems such as pollution, water contamination and deforestation.

It was interesting reading about the situation in Zimbabwe!
It's really interesting for me that some sugar cane can be mixed to petroleum and still can be used as a fuel for cars. I see some possibility of sugar cane replacing the fossil fuels is enough technological development is achieved. I hope that technological developments can resolve many problems in Zimbabwe!

I am glad to hear that Zimbabwe joined the road to environmentally sustainable technology! I can see that the development is being made in various sectors, even stretching to education! I hope that the country can successfully apply these technologies in real life so that people get to actually see that it's possible to pursue development and economic growth while caring for the environment! I think other developing countries should start to join this path and of course in order for that to be possible, international cooperation should always come first!
