[Food and the Environment]- Climate Change & Addaptive farming |

Our monthly topic for December 'Sustainable table' is timely because we are at a time when so much has been disturbed pertaining to our normal climate. The food production across the globe is no longer the same. Even while by 2030 global population is projected to be at 10 billion, we still have much more to be desired just to feed the current 7 billion population due to Climate Change. On December 6th 2019, I was at the Zambia National Television- ZNBC where on behalf of my organisation Passion For Greens as well as TUNZA Ecogeneration, I was invited to discuss the topic 'Climate Change and Addaptive Farming'. Exactly the same monthly topic for December that Ecogeneration picked on, what a coincidence. During the discussion, I highlighted how firstly Agriculture itself has proved to be one of the major contributing factors to Climate Change due to some unsustainable agriculture methods that have done more harm than good to the Environment. Secondly I furthermore highlighted how farmers are finding it very hard to adapt to the negative effects of climate change due to unfamiliarity to the new weather patterns. And lastly I identified some of the practices that are a hindrance to sustainable and proper agriculture production such as mono cropping, clear felling, deforestation and depletion of soil nutrients among others. I brought to the attension of the public Addaptive Agriculture, a method of farming that is aimed at embracing methods and techniques of agriculture that will suit and thrive through the changed climate and ensure there is food security despite the ongoing climate change. Such methods includes mixed cropping, shifting cultivation, greenhouses, fertigation, Agroforestry as well as implementation of drought tolerant crops to replace convernsional crops. Furthermore i recommended that farmers should always check with the meteorological centres or the weather forecast and get advice from the local agricultural extension officers of what to plant, when and where. If we implemented sustainable agricultural methods as well as practiced Addaptive farming everywhere across the globe, Agriculture would be key driver to Climate Change mitigation and there would be enough food on the table to sustain our population. As ambassadors it is our role to educate the people on the risks and effects of climate change and ensure that farmers practice agriculture methods and techniques that will thrive in the tempered with climate. Thanks and Green Cheers.

Hey David!
This is your mentor Lisa:)
It's totally awesome that you were on a national TV show!
I think it's important that young persons get to speak in public and participate in institutional processes in order to make our voices heard!
And yes, what a coincidence for the topic!
I think you have some great ideas presented here and also on the TV show as well regarding the adaptive agriculture.
It is definitely important for us to start developing environmentally sustainable methods worldwide.
In order for this to be used by the general public, I personally find it very important to raise awareness and climate literacy among those people who engage in agriculture in real-life and educate to persuade them into changing their way of farming.
In such a sense, you being on a public show seems to be a very good start!
Nice job friend and keep up your work:)
Green cheers for my green celebrity!!

Hello David
Thank you for the introduction of adaptive agriculture.
Farming is certainly one of the most important way of interacting with nature and billions of people rely on it. By reading your report, I could see that if we change the fundamental methods of agriculture, there will be huge change in the planet. I hope many farming areas adapt this environmental and effect way of farming.
Thank you for the great report.
