Common Environmental Problems of Pakistan

by | 13-08-2014 21:25 recommendations 0

Environmental pollution is very dangerous and threat to the modern world. This issue is becoming risky and crossing the limits because people do not have awareness about it. Today world is talking to remove the elements that are crating environmental problems and making lives  of humans and animals, tough. There are many environmental problems that exist in Pakistan. The population of our country is increasing rapidly with time. It was one million at the time of independence but probably it would be around 300 million at the end of 21 century which will be more than that of American population. There are many factors responsible for environmental problems in Pakistan few are mentioned here in detail.

Floods are common that are causing losses because the first surface of earth has been flown with floods, land is barren and water under the earth is being polluted. Pakistan has limited sources but still it has to resolve the pollution or environmental problems at priority bases.

One of the major environmental challenges, here in Pakistan is global warming. It has decreased the agricultural productivity, largely. Besides food shortage, It is also effecting humans by causing several diseases due to ozone depletion and infrared radiations of sun including, cancer. Unchecked industrialization is responsible for the whole situation so there is a vital role of checking industries and making this sector sustainable to solve air pollution, ozone depletion and ultimately, global warming.

Other major issue is water sacristy. Firstly it was not available for our crops and causing plants to die but now the people of many areas of Pakistan including Thar, thal deserts are dying due to water sacristy. Many other areas have water but not available for drinking as coastal areas like Karachi and Gawadar. Many cities and villages have polluted water and they do not have any option, unless to drink this dirty, polluted and unhygienic water.

Energy crisis is also a big hurdle in the development, these days in my beloved country.  Although federal and provincial governments are taking steps to overcome this situation but still big cities of Pakistan are facing 7-8 hours load shedding per day and in villages condition is more severe i.e. 12-14 hours of load shedding per day.  Large investment is needed to solve this issue in the energy and sector. Privatization of the sector or/and its shares could also help us to solve this critical situation

Well written Farooq. Energy crisis is indeed a big hurdle in the development. More generation & less usage is the key to solve this crisis.

Energy saved is energy generated. If people save & conserve the available resources this will mitigate the problem to an extent.
