As a result of strict government enforcement, all shops sell their products in plastic bags.
When we were driving in the hill station, we were stopped by an official who checked that we were not carrying any plastic.
The result of this strict enforcement is that the streets of Kodaikanal are not littered with plastic trash, a feature that complements its inherent natural beauty.
Kodaikanal has proved that not using plastic, in an age where the very thought seems unthinkable, is actually possible.

That's a really nice policy, since anyone may bring his own bag from home to carry what they buy. However, the ban of using plastic generally may have a catastrophic effect on developing countries, since it is much cheaper than alternatives.
