Solar energy to power Dubai homes

by Arushi Madan | 08-09-2014 14:43 recommendations 0

Dubai has always been at forefront when it comes to governing and encouraging residents for sustainable practices. This time Dubai is finalizing regulations & laws  to connect homes and commercial facilities to solar power .

Dubai aims to feed more solar power into its main grid – currently heavily dependent on gas-fired turbines – as part of its strategy to diversify resources. Once this happens, the cost of electricity for homes may be reduced considerably but it will be finalised once the system is ready to use.

Solar power will help meet the city?s power demand while turning it further away from non-renewable energy sources.

Sunlight or solar radiation is abundant in the clear skies of the UAE and is increasingly being harnessed for conversion into electricity.

In the coming 16 years, Dubai aims to reduce gas use to 71 per cent, and mix its energy sources by depending 12 per cent on nuclear energy, 12 per cent on clean coal and five per cent on solar power.

More than 20 megawatts (MW) of electricity are already sourced through two solar power installations linked to the main power network.

Once the regulations are in place, ?it will encourage people to install solar energy. This is the plan of the [Dubai] government?

Many countries like Germany and China are running for competitive advantages but policies of Dubai is the most impressive one than anywhere else's.

Solar power is the best source of energy, we can convert its enormous energy as electricity without more fossil fuel pollution. In India also many of the people put solar panels for their house to fulfill their regular energy needs. Government also motivate to do such things.

Solar is the future of energy generation. Thanks, Arushi for your report in continuation of your previous posts on the similar project.
I hope we optimize this further.
@Sabin: I'm sure Nepal will do it faster. All the best.

As I already stated in the previous comment, Duabi really amazing. Like UDEH hats of the Dubai people. Joining solar directly to national grid has been a trend in western countries and this is a brilliant idea to overcome ppwercuts and fuels scarcity. Back here in Nepal, it has only been an idea and the scientist at NAST are working on its possibilities. Till now solar are not connected to the grids but I hope that with ten years of time, Nepal will do the same.

yes,, Udeh you rightly commented, "Dubai is blazing the trail in environmental protection policies".
Arushi, its really amazing to hear Dubai is planning to reduce gas use by 71%. and thank you for the news link as well.
Personally, i have always like the idea of using solar energy as the main source of energy for electricity production. its the perpetual source of energy and once fullly operateed we needn't to worry about its depletion like we now do for petroleum products

I doff my hat for Dubai!
They are blazing the trail in environmental protection policies. When I look at Dubai,I remember we still have a long way to go here in Nigeria.
Thanks Arushi for reporting this very interesting news.
    I love the pictures.
