3R Education Toward Elementary School Students

A few times ago, pedagogy students from Sriwijaya University  taught elementary school students to convert unused material like expired magazines and newspapers to  handicraft.  The location was in SD Negeri 157 (Public Elementary School Number 157) Palembang.



The participants are around 160 people. They were from 4th, 5th and 6th grade. They worked in teams accompanied with some mentors.



The activity was held in a week where The University students collaborated with The teacher used students free time to did the works. Then the results displayed in Ruang 3R (3R Room). 3R is abbreviation of ?reduce, reuse, and recycle?.


This action was aimed to educate the students to be creative, active and care about the environment. The long term goal is the future youth will be more concern to reduce, reuse the unused materials. If the day come, rubbish isn?t a huge matter anymore.

    Three R's are the back bone & strength of Environmental awareness. Spreading it in kids is vey good as they will take care of the future.
    Very well conducted event. The waste has been converted into good pieces of Art. The pictures are also very nice.

    This is a creative way of engaging young enviroactivists in a manner that they would surely like and practice.

    These crafts do look beautiful. As Arushi said, such activities would inculcate environmental values. Such initiatives also provide youths a chance to do their part for the environment.
